SAR Business Meeting Notes :
February 28, 2023- 1:00 P.M.
Attendees: Carl V. Hill, Evert
S. Gardner, Lovell W. Aldrich, Jim G. Penny, Don R. Rollins and Steven Barber
Treasury Report: Have
$325.00 per SAR Chapter to donation to Junior ROTC members. Four Regional
chapters will be receiving these funds. (The Baytown chapter has been
shutdown.) Having difficulty in
procurement of metals where there is a requirement to provide a name for
reimbursement of the cost of Certificate with a Metal. Sar Alexander Hodge
Chapter No. 49 has identified 18 Junior ROTC members from FBISD and LCISD to receive these rewards.
To continue promotion of SAR,
the chapter has procured a SAR Podium banner and also handout pamphlets that
explain the history and purpose of the SAR organization.
Web Page Report: Jim Penny
reported he has looked another chapters web sites and is learning and putting
together this Chapters Web site. In the future he intends to include highlights
of meeting reports.
Secretary Report: The
minutes for the January 31st, 2023 meeting where reviewed and
approved by the business meeting group.
New Business:
1) State Eagle
Boy Scout Scholarship Essay Competition: Essays submitted on personnel family
heritage. Chapter sponsored two candidates, nether which advanced in the
competition. Better sponsorship needed next year
.
2) Positions
open for nominations in this Chapter are: Awards & Metals, ROTC
Representative, Veterans Representative, Scrapbook or Historian. Evert Gardner
volunteered to be the Veterans Representative to organize donations to VA homes
in the Pearland area on Saturday mornings. Will be looking for donations in
books, tooth brushes, and other personal toiletries to be provided to Veterans
in residence.

3) Coming
Events: a) State SAR Convention in the Woodlands, Texas-March 30th
to April 2, 2023
b) Exchange Club Bates Allen Park Historical Slave Cemetery
cleanup, in Kendelton, TX February 21, 2023 attended by DAR and SAR Alexander
Hodge Lodge No. 49 members Carl Hill and Steve Barber, and c) March 2, 2023,
the Hodges Bend Cemetery had a DAR sponsored event promoting public awareness
of this historical cemetery. Attended by local government officials, Boy Scouts
and other organizations. SAR representative attending Steve Barber.
4) Looking for upcoming public events in the
Sugar Land, TX area where SAR can attend and promote the SAR organization. Looking for
Ethnic events, Genealogy Fairs, etc. where a table can be setup.
5) Next Alexander Hodge Chapter N0 49 meeting is
scheduled March 28th, 2023, at
Spring Creek Barbeque located at 4895 Highway 6, Missouri City, TX. Randal
A. Hankla, will be the next meeting speaker, presenting “Battle of King
Mountain”.
