Memorial Service for Lewis Mangum Jr., Saturday, March 13, 2020 @ 11:00AM

Lewis Mangum, Jr. passed away on February 13, 2020, and was cremated.  Visitation with the family is at 10.00 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2020 at the Pearland Methodist Church located at 2314 North Grand Blvd., which is just off FR-518 south of the rail-road tracks. The easiest way to get to the church is to take the Sam Houston toll road to Cullen and go south on Cullen to FR-518, then turn left and drive one block to North Grand Blvd. Take a left turn on North Grand Blvd. and the Methodist Church is on the left.  The memorial service is at the Pearland Methodist Church beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2020. The phone number of the Pearland Methodist Church is 281-485-1466.

VA Hospital Visit Saturday November 9th at 10am

Our next Houston VA Hospital visit is Saturday November 9th at 10am and we will meet in the hospital main lobby for about 9:45am.

Should anyone like to participate purchasing gift bag items, I will be picking up the majority of the gift items on the evening of Thursday November 7th, so let me know should you want to participate.

Memorial Service for Bryan Jay "B Jay" Cannon

The Reverend Doctor Bryan Jay Cannon, aged 90, passed away on July 8, 2019. A memorial service will be held on July 20, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main Street, Houston, Texas. Following the service will be a reception at the church.

"Battle of Medina honored" - The Texas Compatriot - Fall 2017

Each year SAR members gather under large oak trees to honor all the men, on both sides, who participated in the Battle of Medina, which occurred on Aug. 18, 1813.  This was the bloodiest battle ever fought on Texas soil, with between 800 and 1,300 men killed.  In the photo above the memorial program is beginning with principal speaker Atascosa County Judge Robert Hurley welcoming attendees.

Mirabeau B. Lamar Day - January 26, 2017

On January 26th, designated Lamar Day by the Texas Legislature, Richmond Mayor Evalyn Moore read a proclamation honoring Mirabeau B. Lamar at his gravesite in Morton Cemetery, Richmond, Texas. Attending were: kneeling, Glen Camp, and Carl Hill, back row, Mike Bailey, Tom Green, Rion Braddock, & Tom Houston. Mirabeau B. Lamar was inaugurated President of the Republic of Texas in 1838 and is known as the Father of Texas Education.

Houston VA Medical Center Visit - November 5, 2016

On November 5, 2016 SAR members of the Alexander Hodge Chapter visited veterans at the Houston VAMC and distributed socks, magazines and personal grooming items for the veterans. The Alexander Hodge Chapter of the SAR visited the VA Hospital in the Houston medical center on Saturday November 5, 2016 in observance of Veterans Day on November 11th. There was a good turn out with seven members and two guests (Michelle Bultman and Carrie Isaacks Bornaschella). The group was escorted through the spinal cord injury unit by Liz Neely, the director of recreational therapy.
