Patriot Ancestor: Colonel John Glenn

COLONEL JOHN GLENN (1750 - 1797) - He was born in Lunenburg County, Virginia in 1750, and served as an attorney prior to the Revolution. In 1776 he joined the 2nd Battalion Minutemen, Mecklenburg District Battalion as a Captain. In June 1776 he was promoted to Major. He participated in the Battle of Gwynn's Island, and eventually ended up fighting Indians at Ft. Patrick Henry (Kingsport, TN) on the North Bank of the Holston River. He served in the Virginia Militia until the Fall of 1776 and returned to Lunenburg County. John Glenn was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates during Spring 1777, and served in the following sessions:

Meet in Main Lobby of VA Hospital at 9:45 AM, tour to start at 10AM. An important part of our responsibilities as members of the Sons of the American Revolution is to recognize our veterans. The hospitalized veterans really appreciate our visits. Please contact Fred Bultman by email if you plan to join us. He will provide details on how and when members will meet to car pool to the VA Medical Center.

The Alexander Hodge Chapter #49 usually meets on the last Tuesday of the months of January, March, May, July, September and November at the Sweetwater Country Club located at 4400 Palm Royal Blvd., Sugar Land, TX 77479.  The meeting starts at 7:00 pm, but members and guest are encouraged so get there about 6:30 to have time to meet and converse with fellow members.  Please call Lovell Aldrich at 281-491-1542 by Friday noon to make dinner reservations.

Commemorating July 4, 1776, at the Alexander Hodge Monument: (l to r) Tom Green; Wallace Saage; Ron Brown; Ann Becker; Carl Hill. Becker is Historic Preservation Chairman of the Lady Washington Chapter NSDAR. Saage is Collections Curator of the Heritage Society. Brown is President of the Alexander Hodge Chapter of the SAR. In Revolutionary War Army attire- Hill was the first President of the Hodge Chapter and Green is currently President of the Texas Sons of the American Revolution.

Dedication of SAR & SRT Marker at Virgil Kem Isaacks Gravesite - Morton Cemetery, Richmond, Texas

Members of the Sons of the American Revolution and Daughters of the American Revolution met at the Morton Cemetery in Richmond Texas at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 25th to dedicate the gravesite of deceased Alexander Hodge Chapter #49 member Virgil Kem Isaacks with a Sons of the American Revolution marker, and the Sons of the Republic of Texas. A long time member of the Alexander Hodge Chapter, he was born on March 21, 1945 in San Angelo, Texas he passed away on January 2, 2012.


History Teacher of the Year - 2015

The Alexander Hodge Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution presented a portrait of George Washington to Sartartia Middle School in recognition of Peter Garcia being named History Teacher of the Year by Alexander Hodge Chapter #49, Texas Society Sons of the American Revolution. The portrait will hang in Sartartia Middle School, Sugar Land, Texas where he teaches. Pictured from left are Alexander Hodge Chapter President Ron Brown, History Teacher of the Year, Peter Garcia, Alexander Hodge Chapter Secretary, Curt Osborne, and Principal of Sartartia Middle School, Dr. Jennifer Nichols.
