Business Meeting Minutes

The officers of the Alexander Hodge Chapter #49 Sons of the American Revolution, gathered at Spring
Creek Barbeque located at 4895 Highway 6, Missouri City, TX. In the private meeting room, Carl Hill
called the meeting to order at 1:00 P.M.

Attending: Carl Hill (President), Jim Penny (Newsletter and Web Master), Don Rollins (Sgt. Of Arms) and Steve Barber (Secretary).
Secretary Report: Steve Barber provided copies and reviewed the Chapters September 30 th , 2025
Chapter meeting minutes. The minutes were approved by the attending officers.
Steve Barber reported that, as of October 1st 2025, the State of Texas SAR office reported that only six (6) Alexander Hodge Members failed to submit their 2025 annual dues. All of these members were
contacted by email and or telephone concerning the current dues due for 2025.
Matthew K. Heald should be listed as a member of the Alexander Hamilton Chapter and not the Alexander Hodge #49 Chapter, which lowers none paying Chapter members to five (5). Those five are identified as Jason E. Corley (active military who has not responded to several inquiries), Randle A. Hankla, (Houston - that made two commitments to pay but has not), Scott Hutchinson (Missouri City- No response) Joe S Moody (Missouri City- No Response) and Jimmy D Nowell Jr. (Houston, changed his email address in Feb 2025 and committed to pay, but never paid and State has failed to update his submitted updated email.
Treasurers Report: Carl Hill presented the Treasurer’s Report. The Chapter’s Treasury has a balance of $9,155.95. This reflexes $130.00 to the Alexander Hodge Chapter and $130.00 to the Carrington Chapter from the hat raffle held at the Board of Managers (BOM) meeting. Still working on settling the monies raised from the Silent Auction held at the BOM meeting.
Treasurers Report: Carl Hill presented the Treasurer’s Report. The Chapter’s Treasury has a balance of $9,155.95. This reflexes $130.00 to the Alexander Hodge Chapter and $130.00 to the Carrington Chapter from the hat raffle held at the Board of Managers (BOM) meeting. Registrars Report: Working on four (4) new applicants for the Alexander Hodhge Chapter. James Pettibone, Ron Blackwell, Divid Haynes and Nick Anderson.
Dropped applications for Mike McGree and Jack Sparta because of lack of interest and documents.
Micheal and Gerald Bishops applications are now at National for final approval, Douglas Thorpes
application has been completed and submitted for approval.
Still working on Applications for Brandon Draper, Richard Laughlin, Caleb Morefield and David Leiske.
Web Site and Newsletter Report: Jim Penny reported working mostly on the Chapter member biographies for The Texas SAR Achieves committee publishing volume 3 of the Texas Society History in 2025 with John Anderson.
Jim plans to publish a November Chapter Newsletter.

There is an outstanding invoice for an ad that was published in the National SAR News Magazine for
$48.00. A check has been submitted for this outstanding invoice.
SAR Chapter Participations Awards:
1) Carl Hill proposed awarding the Martha Washington Medal to Erin Tynes for all of her hard
work in supporting the Alexande Hodge Chapter in putting on the Hat Raffle and Silent Auction at the State BOM meeting held in October 2025. Was approved by the Chapter Officers.

2) Carl Hill (President) and Steve Barber (Secretary) participated in a SAR color guard
ceremony at the SAR BOM meeting in October.
3) There were nine (9) Alexander Hodge Chapter members that assisted in the running of the
State BOM meeting held in October. Liberty Medals have or will be presented to these
members for their great support in this important event. Ron Brown, Jim Penny, Lovell
Aldrich, Don Burns, John Thompson, Steve Barber, Carl Hill, Kevin Buford, and Robert
Rhodes.
4) Addition awards of recognition given at the BOD meeting in October were:
a) Alexander Hidge Chapter recognized for their participation in Wreaths Across America.
b) Alexander Hodge Chapter recognized for their “Flags of the American Revolution”
program.
c) Alexander Hodge Chapter and Carl Hill presented with Henry Knox Achievement Medal
for sponsoring the Fall BOM meeting.
d) Jim Penny awarded the Silver Service Metal for his article published in the National SAR
magazine.
Future SAR Participation Opportunities:
1) DAR 2025 Wreaths Across America fund Program. The Alexander Hodge SAR Chapter will be
supporting the Alexander Hodge DAR Chapter in purchasing wreaths and providing a Color
Guard for wreath laying ceremonies.
a) In the past the SAR chapter purchased 10 wreaths from the DAR Chapter. Flyer and order
form that members can use is attached for Chapter members who wish to buy additional
wreaths to be laid on veteran’s grave sites.
b) An SAR Alexander Hodge #49 Color Guard has been provided for the Wreath laying
ceremony at the Alexander Hodge Cemetery with a musket gun salute and taps played. The
anticipated date for this event is December 6 th , 2025.

The next Alexander Hodge Chapter #49 meeting is scheduled for Nov 25,2025 at 7:00 P.M. at Spring
Creek Barbecue restaurant on Highway 6 in Missouri City Texas. The speaker will be Richard Horn
discussing “Medicines used during American Revolution”.
