The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, and our local Chapter offer several Youth Award Programs for cash awards and scholarships. These programs are available to various age groups, grade levels, and organizations such as the JROTC and Eagle Scouts. The speaker will be Dr. Christopher Hammons, He will be speaking on Paul Revere. Dr. Hammons is a member of our chapter and a professor at HBU. Dinner Meeting at Sweetwater Country Club 4400 Palm Royale Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479 281-980-4100. There are records of 46 veterans of the Continental Army moving to Texas at the close of the American Revolutionary War. One of these, a man of unique character and great courage, was Alexander Hodge.

The Alexander Hodge Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution presented a portrait of George Washington to Dulles Middle School on June 2. PLEASE NOTE: The meeting will be held on Wednesday (Not the regularly scheduled Tuesday) June 1, 2016 at 6:30 PM. Dinner meeting at Sweetwater Country Club, 4400 Palm Royale Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479. The speaker will be Dr. Caroline Castillo Crimm, born and raised in Mexico City, came to the United States a 17. She holds degrees from the University of Miami, Texas Tech and completed her Ph.D. in Latin American History at the University of Texas at Austin. Among her many books and articles is the award-winning De León, a Tejano Family History (2004). During her forty years in teaching, she has won numerous awards including the prestigious Piper Award as one of the best teachers in Texas. She has recently retired and been honored as a Professor Emeritus in History from Sam Houston State University for her work with her students, her university and her community. Her topic will be “How Texas Saved the American Revolution”.
Patriot Ancestor: Peter Poland

PETER POLAND was a solider in the Pennsylvania Line. He served at Mudisland (Mud Island) Under Captain William Brown and in Proctor’s Artillery, crossing the ice-choked Delaware River with General George Washington. He served at the battles of Trenton and Princeton. He was listed as a Private 5th class in the Association and Militia, 7th Co. 6th Battalion of Lancaster Co. Commanded by Capt. James Taylor in June 1781. His son Peter Poland II served in the Virginia Militia 1778 and 1779. Peter Poland is the ancestor of Carl Hill Jr.
